Over thousands year of history, Phu Tho owns a plentiful heritage systems. Not only is the heritage system of the province an invaluable asset, but also is the pride of Phu Tho in particular and Vietnam in general. Especially, there are two heritages of Phu Tho province is recognized by UNESCO:
On 24.11.2011, UNESCO recognized Phu Tho Xoan Singing is Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding. Xoan singing, which is also called Khuc Mon Dinh or Ca Mon Dinh (Sing at the door of communal temple), has been one of ways to worship God since the Hung Kings era. Xoan singing is a form of ritual folk culture, with multi-art performance as: music, singing, dancing, usually performed in the spring, in Phu Tho. The recognition of UNESCO has brought Phu Tho Xoan singing from Phu Tho cultural space to all peoples of Vietnam and the worldwide humanity, indicating that Phu Tho Xoan singing has lasted with its potential vitality. The province are trying to move attempting Phu Tho Xoan singing from list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding to List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Subsequently, on 6-12-2012, UNESCO recognized Worship of Hung Kings in Phu Tho, Vietnam as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity with spiritual elements of Vietnamese people’s life for thousands years, expressing foundation of the national unity and the community cohesion. The uniqueness of this intangible cultural heritage is worshiping Hung Kings means worshiping ancestor of Vietnam. This wonderful cultural feature does not exist in all countries over the world.
For generations, Vietnamese people have always been toward a spiritual fulcrum. That fulcrum becomes common worship belief of Vietnam: Worship of Hung Kings. Hung King Temple Festival, and Hung Kings Death Anniversary annually on lunar March 10th. Secular Hung Kings legendary and the Hung King Temple Festival and the Death Anniversary Belief show that the belief, traditional “built the country” of Vietnamese people. Hung King Temple Festival is the biggest spiritual festival when descendants in all the country return to offer their gratefulness to Hung Kings’ merits of building the country. This belief was formed by national moral and tradition: patriotism, gratefulness of ancestor.
In the journey to Phu Tho – Land of heritages, apart from Hung King Temple and Hung King Temple Festival, there is a system of tangible and intangible heritage. Phu Tho has preserved a large volume of plentiful tangible and intangible heritages, reflecting life of the agricultural people in process of formation and development of the country.
Nowadays, when Vietnam is in the process of renovation and international economic integration, more than ever, our country needs to preserve and promote the precious cultural values. Implementing the policy of the Party: "Building Vietnamese cultures which deeply imbued ethnic identities", Phu Tho has used specific measures to preserve, promote the legacy the extremely precious heritage system.
