On November 28, a group from the US Embassy in Vietnam led by Deputy Ambassador Melissa Bishop met with leaders from Phu Tho province to continue the province’s work program. The delegation was received by Mr. Phan Trong Tan - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee.

Speaking during the meeting, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee expressed his pleasure at welcoming a group from the US Embassy in Vietnam to Phu Tho and briefly introducing the province’s potential, strengths, and socioeconomic development position. UNESCO has designated the Hung King Temple Historical Relic Area, where the Vietnamese nation’s origins and the Hung King Worship Belief - a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Furthermore, Phu Tho undertakes biodiversity protection and generates livelihoods for individuals in the Xuan Son National Park region so that they may live better lives. Ethnic communities' cultural identities and ancient rituals are still being protected and encouraged throughout the province. In terms of education, particularly essential education, Phu Tho is a shining example for the entire country.

Phan Trong Tan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, stated that 2023 is a special year in Vietnam-US cooperation and hopes that the Deputy Ambassador will continue to pay attention to Phu Tho province, support promotion, introduce and connect the province with US localities to promote cooperation based on each side’s potential. Create circumstances for US enterprises to learn about the environment and invest in Phu Tho province in the sectors of industry, agriculture, commerce, and services in particular. In addition, he stated that Phu Tho would always welcome US organizations, persons, and tourists to visit, participate in, and conduct cultural exchange and cooperation activities in all sectors.

Deputy Ambassador Melissa Bishop expressed gratitude for the delegation’s warm, courteous, and considerate reception in Phu Tho province. She was quite charmed with the lovely environment and people of the ancestral land after two days in Phu Tho. In her new role, she will collaborate with members of the US Embassy team in Vietnam on more specific duties to promote the overall cooperative partnership between Vietnam and the US in general, and Phu Tho province in particular. At the same time, we will continue to investigate and serve as a bridge for American enterprises to quickly execute viable initiatives, contributing to each side’s socioeconomic advancement.
The party had previously visited the Hung Temple historical relic site and met and engaged with students from Hung Vuong Gifted High School.
