Nearly 53 years after the establishment of diplomatic relations and more than 2 years since the elevation of Viet Nam-Japan ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World, relations between the two countries have continued to develop comprehensively, sustaintiely and effectively across all fields, underpinned by a high degree of political trust. The bilateral relationship is widely regarded as one of the most successful models of cooperation between Viet Nam and its international partners.
Japan remains one of Viet Nam’ s foremost economic partners, ranking first in official development assistance (ODA), third in investment and tourism, and fourth in trade. In 2025, total bilateral trade turnover exceeded USD 50 billion for the first time. Cooperation between localities and dynamic people-to-people exchanges have increasingly deepened, thereby reinforcing the sustainable cocial foundation of bilateral relations between the two countries.
