A Medal of Labour presentation ceremony of Lao People's Democratic Republic to Vietnamese Youth Volunteer Team 253 held

On the afternoon of September 25th, at the Provincial Center Conference, a Medal of Labour presentation ceremony of Lao PDR to former officers and soldiers of Vietnamese Youth Volunteer Team 253 was held.

The event saw the attendance of Mrs. Pheng Kanyaphim - Deputy Governor and Vice Standing Secretary of Houaphanh Party Committee; Mr. Phan Trong Tan - Vice Chairman of Phu Tho People's Committee.

Team 253 was established on July 17, 1972 with over 1,200 officers and soldiers of Vinh Phu province (now Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc provinces), who were staffed into 7 companies and 84 platoons serving international duties in Laos. The mission of the team was to open 217B route - an important strategic route with 64km length, connecting the Vieng Xay revolutionary base of Huoaphanh province to the Vietnamese border, at the same time, building Laos revolutionary bases in Vieng Xay, Xam Neua in Huoaphanh province. By achievements in performing the task, in May 1997, the team was awarded the title "Hero of the People's Armed Force" by Vietnamese Party and State and many other noble awards.

Under the authorization of the Prime Minister of the Lao PDR, Mrs. Pheng Kanyaphim - Deputy Governor and Vice Standing Secretary of Houaphanh Party Committee presented Medal of Labour to collectives and individuals of Team 253 team for their contribution to the cause of national liberation movement of the Lao people in general and Vieng Xay district of Huoaphanh province in particular. Including, the First-Class Labor Medal for the collectives and 335 former officers and soldiers; the Second-class Labor Medal for 527 former officers and soldiers and the Third-class Labor Medal for 92 former officers and soldiers. At the ceremony, Mrs. Pheng Kanyaphim directly presented the First-class and the Second-class Medal to the collective and 70 representatives of former officers and soldiers.

Addressing at the ceremony, Mr. Phan Trong Tan, Vice Chairman of Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee affirmed: Party, State and people of the two countries of Vietnam - Laos as well as Party Committee, government and people of three provinces: Phu Tho - Vinh Phuc - Hua Phan have always appreciated the great contributions and sacrifices of former officers and soldiers of Team 253 for the cause of national liberation and national construction in the Lao PDR. These contributions and sacrifices forever inculcated the tradition of solidarity, loyalty, and affection between the two ethnic groups of Vietnam - Laos, the three provinces of Phu Tho - Vinh Phuc - Hua Phan in national construction and protection. The noble rewards awarded by the Party and State of Laos were not only the honor of the team but also the affection and respect of the Party, State and people of Laos for the Party and government and peoples of Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc for the contributions to the solidarity and friendship relationship between the two countries and the two peoples.

Also at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Phu Tho People's Committee presented the bronze drum symbol to Mrs. Pheng Kanyaphim - Deputy Governor and Vice Standing Secretary of Houaphanh Party Committee.
